We didn’t have long here – just enough time for our conference. Close by our hotel were the conference centre, known as the Sage, Gateshead, and the Millennium Bridge, which rises on a pivot motion to allow ships through on the river Tyne. A bit further away is the “Angel of the North”, a steel sculpture 20 metres high and 54 metres across. Pip is standing at the base, which gives you some idea of the scale.
