This page holds a few photos from a trip to Europe in 2011, covering Scotland and Norway. We had such brilliant weather – it was fine almost the entire time and it enabled us to take some very nice photos. This is really just an archive page but enjoy the photos, anyway.

We were lucky enough to have excellent weather for our week in Scotland which made conditions for taking photos, and in particular incorporating reflections, superb. Every corner we turned showed us another postcard view, it seemed.

Norway Fjords Photos
These were taken in April 2011. We were very kindly hosted by our friends Jostein and Margun who drove us for hundreds of kilometres across Norway, through amazing road tunnels and aboard many ferries. We visited in late Spring and were rewarded with remnants of snow and ice accompanied by sunshine and brilliant blue skies. Every new vista opened up many photo opportunities and we thank Jostein for his patience while we stopped and clicked like crazy!
Jostein and Pip have a friendship that stretches back to the 1960’s when they were both in the United States as exchange students on the American Field Service (AFS) programme, constantly jousting with each other to prove to the Americans that their respective home countries were the most beautiful on earth, and now we know from these photos that Norway comes pretty close! This connection of nearly 50 years exemplifies one of the benefits of this student exchange programme, as outlined on the AFS website: Participants… form deep and meaningful connections with other AFS Participants, who they meet at orientation sessions and activities organized by AFS in the host country.
