We spent an interesting afternoon wandering around Lucca, this very ancient city with its roots in Etruscan times although the street layout dates only (!) from Roman times, about 180 BC. Curiously, an early 6th century Bishop of Lucca was an Irishman named Frediano. I jest not! The medieval walls are still standing pretty much intact and they make for a suitably imposing entrance to the town.
Every corner we turned offered us another vista ready for capture – this would be a great place for artists. I wish I had those skills but all I can do is manipulate software.
